First entry, Kavin Mitnick and Blogging.
Well, I guess I should start out by stating the obvious: this is my very FIRST blog ever! I've bumped into one or two blogs here and there before and browsed through LiveJournal.com a few times without really knowing exactly what I was looking at. A few months earlier, I didn't knew ,much about "blog" except that it has something to do with logging entries online. And not surprisingly that's pretty much what it turned out to be. What I didn't know was how vast of a community of bloggers this is and how deep the rabbit hole goes! Its overwhelming!!
Anyway, I'm getting late (not to mention feeling a little hungry - haven't had my breakfast yet.) So, I guess I'd finish up for today telling you guys where I had first heard of "blog" - It was when I was reading about Kevin Mitnick - the world's most famous (or infamous?) computer hacker, who'd been labeled as "the most wanted computer criminal in U.S. history" when he was arrested for breaking into the networks of software and phone companies - who hadn't surfed the Web since 1995. And so once his 5 years long prison sentence (where he had been denied access to any PC with internet) was over, the very first thing kavin did was visit his girl friend Darci Wood's weblog, where their relationship has been documented. He wanted to see what she had said about him.
I thought, blog, eh? Hmm...smells like some online diary type thing. After couple of weeks and half a dozen articles (on how democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean’s raised his campaign money exploiting internet, online community and blogs) later - I found out indeed it was like a online diary, only much more interactive, powerful with no guilt-string attatched for reading other people's personal entries!
